RANDOMNESS #1 - I went to Chick-Fil-A drive-thru for breakfast this morning. I haven't been in awhile, and I was craving some Chicken Minis and a Diet Dr. Pepper.
I pulled up to the window to pay, and the girl told me, "The guy in front of you paid for your meal."
That's one of the things I love about living in Gardendale. We're encouraged at our church to pay for the person behind us in line. It's easy and sweet and you never know what a blessing it will be to the person sitting behind the wheel of the car in your rear view mirror.
But today was the first time someone ever paid for my meal.
And I was thrilled.
Thrilled, I tell you!
I'll be honest. I have honked at the person in front of me in the drive-thru line when I've recognized the car or truck before, just hoping they would have pity on me and pay for my order.
I even had someone tell me the reason it had never happened to me (before today) was because people never knew how many kids I had in The Big Gold Van coming through the drive-thru.
(I will admit... It can be quite costly at times.)
But today, it was just me and my chicken minis and Diet Dr. Pepper... and a very nice "guy" driving a gray pick-up truck with a deer stenciled on the back left tailgate... and a license plate reading 1B...
Just kidding.
I'm not going to give out his license plate number.
That would be creepy.
And it has been my experience in the past... creepy people don't usually have their meals paid for in the drive-thru line at Chick-Fil-A!
RANDOMNESS #2 - Today you get action shots. Our Tuesday night basketball game ended very well. We are definitely on a winning streak! (That would be a big ol' 2 games, and we're going for 3 tonight!
Alyssa and Kaylen. The team that runs down the court together... WINS!
Mallory. I'm going to be asked to leave the game if the Chicks don't stop waving at me and my camera in the stands.
You might assume Kesley and Roxie were ganging up on a poor girl from Carver.
That would be a correct assumption.
The best part of this picture... Roxie made the foul shot.
Mallory was a blur. Not my fault. That's how fast the Chick runs.
Kam... No smile yet. I'll take that pic tonight!
RANDOMNESS #3 - I checked Roxie out of school for a couple of hours Wednesday to visit someone at UAB, and guess what we saw along the way.
These giant ornaments are on the sidewalk in front of Children's Hospital... and they would look great in my front yard.

Pinterest Stuff - Keep in mind, none of the following ideas are mine. They come directly from PINTEREST!
1. Snowman Christmas Tree - For the first time in 26 Christmases, we didn't get a live tree. We had THREE huge excuses... Auburn football, foul weather and an out-of-town son.
Heavy, heavy sigh.
So I decided to copy the Pinterest Snowman Tree.
And I decided to use a Fedora instead of a Top Hat.
And I still haven't made a carrot nose that befits such a spiffy looking Pinterest Snowman Tree. (I'm working on it!)
2. 25 Days of Service - Make a list of things you want to do to serve others. Have a family list or have each person make their own. Some ideas... volunteer at the homeless shelter, make neighborhood gifts, find a family in need and take them dinner, donate your gently used toys or buy new toys for a charity. If you are having each person make their own list, add things like make bed for sibling, shovel someone's driveway, etc.
3. Christmas Express - First things first... Make some Golden Tickets!
Ready to start a Christmas tradition that the whole family will enjoy? I know you’ve all seen The Polar Express. Each year we hide the “Golden Tickets” in our kids’ beds. My husband starts the bedtime routine as usual, while I prepare little bags of popcorn and hot chocolate drinks and place them in the car. Don’t forget to have Christmas music playing in the car, too!
When the kids climb into bed, they will find the ticket hidden under their covers. Get ready for lots of giggles and screams as they all find their tickets! The kids are then instructed to grab their slippers and head for the car.
Upon entrance to The Minivan Express, hole punch the ticket. Next, travel around the city looking at all the beautiful lights. You may even stop somewhere for a fun snack on the way home.
Here are some other trip ideas for you:
Check your local Barnes & Noble. Some years they present "The Polar Express" for story time. All the kids come in their jammies and our children were given little jingle bells.
If you have a local outdoor ice rink (check out prices and times), go ice skating!
Go see Santa Claus. Pack the kids in the car and take a trip to see Santa at your local mall and get their pictures taken!
The Enchanting Belinda says, "I would have loved doing the Minivan Express when my kids were small. It's a great idea!"
Weekend Happenings
1. Roxie, Mike and I are attending a basketball game tonight.
Shocking, I know.
2. I think Saturday will be a hysteria-filled, "THERE ARE ONLY 11 MORE DAYS UNTIL CHRISTMAS!" kind of day around here.
Maybe, just maybe, we'll get some things done.
3. Austin will be producing the JSU Football game Saturday afternoon AND calling the JSU Women's Basketball game Saturday night.
And then he will come home for a much-needed day and night visit.
4. My MamMa's Christmas Celebration (also known as Palisades Christmas) will be held on a mountain in Oneonta Sunday night (also known as Palisades Park). This is one of our favorite Christmas traditions, and right now (KNOCK ON WOOD), The Faulkner Five and The Lovely Melia will all be in attendance.
(This is the party we play Minute-to-Win-it Games. It is so much fun.)

I have the most pitiful tree in G'dale I know, but this year I have not been inspired to do much decorating. I'm afraid the day is going to come and go and my fireplace mantle will remain as is. I may try the candle decor if I can muster up the enthusiasm this weekend. I feel your Christmas-tree-traditions- down-the-tube pain.
ReplyDeleteAhh... A kindred spirit. A sad kindred spirit, but a kindred spirit nonetheless! You and I need to get together and talk about all the Christmas "stuff" we still have left to complete over a couple of mugs of eggnog... and fudge... and maybe a pizza from Papa John's!
