Weekend Wrap-Up, A New Picture Scavenger Hunt (for the Older Crowd), A Restaurant Review - Post Office Pies

Good Wednesday evening!

RANDOMNESS #1 - As I mentioned in my last post, Roxie's Senior Prom was held this past Friday night. She and some friends ate at The Club overlooking Birmingham (beautiful), and had their pictures taken.

As you might recall, it was a gray, blustery, coolish kind of day.

I LOVED IT!

Some of the girls wearing prom dresses...

Not so much!

Roxie... Before hair and makeup.

Roxie... Mid hair and makeup.

Roxie... All done!

We weren't expecting Josh, but he walked in as we were leaving.

It was such a nice surprise!

Mike and Roxie at The Club.

Hunter and Roxie!

Hannah and Roxie.

Hunter's lovely sisters, Haley and Hanna Ray, came to give their photo op support!

Ragan and Mason.

Mason and Roxie.

Hannah, Ally, Ragan, Alyssa and Roxie.

Seth and Roxie.

Ragan and Roxie.

As you can see, everyone was beautiful, and a great time was had by all at dinner AND the Prom.

Roxie declared it a huge success!

RANDOMNESS #2 - We are going to be celebrating Easter (April 5) with Mike's side of the family, so we got together with my side this past Sunday.

I got this idea off of Pinterest...

Except for the demonic-looking bunny eyes, it turned out pretty cute.

Grandmother makes the Easter Bunny cake every year. It has something for everyone... chocolate, coconut and/or vanilla.

Four decorated tables total, and all were different.

Josh and his girlfriend, Courtney, came all the way from Hartselle.

And this Mama was very happy.

Austin and Melia.

Brad and Stephanie.

Hunter, Roxie, Zac and Katie.

Katie won the "I traveled the most miles" award.

She drove in from Texas to take care of some business and stayed the rest of the week.

And that made HER Mama very happy, too.

Restaurant Review - Post Office Pies

Mike and I went with some friends this past weekend to Post Office Pies in Avondale.

I first spotted this little gem on a list of 15 Places to Eat in Birmingham...

Or something like that.

Anyway, we decided to give it a try.

When we first arrived, we noticed a bunch of tables outside and in the alley.

To the 53-and-older-crowd, we immediately assumed there was no room in the tiny dive restaurant.

However, as soon as we walked in, we were very pleased to discover a much larger dining area than we had originally thought with LOTS of long rectangular tables. And if you didn't have a party of six, it was okay. You could just sit at the end of someone else's table.

NOTE - We went on a Sunday night. I have no idea how busy or crowded the place gets on a Friday or Saturday. You just need to go with an open mind and some patience... just in case.

As the name suggests, it was once an old post office, and there is nothing fancy about the inside.

The pizza is very good, but not fast.

The atmosphere is loud, but not offensive. Once you and your friends find your "loud" voices, talking is not a huge problem.

The service is kind of "take care of yourself." Once your pizza and drink are delivered to you, you refill your own drink, grab your own take-home box and generally, just enjoy the pie. (You do NOT have to clear your own table. PLUS!)

All in all, the atmosphere has that "urban hipster" feel to it which so appeals to me for some odd reason.

The pizza is as good as Slice pizza, but there is a definite difference in the two. The prices are close to the same, also.

We will most definitely be going back, but we want to take the kiddults with us next time.

Spring Picture Scavenger Hunt

I made this game for us to play at Grandmother's if the guys felt like it, or we had the time.

As it happened, everyone had a really good time just talking and catching up with each other, so we'll do it a different day...

Or you can do it with yours tomorrow!

SPRING SHAMROCK EASTER BUNNY PIC RACE (or SSEBPC)

READ EACH TASK CAREFULLY. LEAVING SOMETHING OUT CAN RESULT IN LOSS!

YOU HAVE 35 MINUTES. DO AS MUCH AS YOU CAN IN THAT AMOUNT OF TIME, AND THEN RETURN TO THE HOUSE. FOR EVERY 5 MINUTES YOU ARE LATE, 1 POINT WILL BE DEDUCTED.

ALSO, APPOINT A PICTURE-TAKING PERSON.

1. YOU WILL RECEIVE 1 POINT FOR EACH AND EVERY EASTER FLAG AND/OR ST. PATRICK’S DAY FLAG YOU FIND HANGING ON FRONT OF A HOUSE OR BUILDING. TAKE A PICTURE!

2. YOU WILL RECEIVE 1 POINT FOR EACH AND EVERY GREEN HOUSE YOU FIND. (THE HOUSE ITSELF MUST BE GREEN. A GREEN DOOR OR GREEN SHUTTERS ONLY DO NOT COUNT!) TAKE A PICTURE!

3. YOU WILL RECEIVE 1 POINT FOR EACH AND EVERY CROSS YOU SEE IN FRONT OF A CHURCH. (TAKE A PICTURE!)

4. BE ON THE LOOKOUT FOR A TULIP BED OR A BUNCH OF JONQUILS. TAKE A PICTURE OF ONE OR THE OTHER ANY TIME DURING THE RACE. (YOU ONLY HAVE TO FIND 1.)

5. GO TO DOLLAR TREE AND (USING THE $5 IN THE ENVELOPE) PURCHASE 1 EASTER ITEM. IF ANOTHER TEAM HAPPENS TO PURCHASE THE SAME ITEM, IT WILL CANCEL BOTH TEAMS OUT, AND NO ONE WILL RECEIVE THIS POINT.

6. PULL THE CAR OVER. SOMEWHERE IN THE CAR, YOU WILL FIND A PAIR OF BUNNY EARS. BEFORE STARTING TO DRIVE AGAIN, TAKE A PICTURE OF EACH TEAM MEMBER WEARING THE BUNNY EARS.

7. GO TO MCDONALD’S AND BUY A SMALL SHAMROCK SHAKE AND FOUR OR FIVE STRAWS. (USE THE LEFTOVER MONEY IN THE ENVELOPE.) PARK THE CAR AND DRINK THE SHAKE UNTIL EMPTY. EACH MEMBER MUST DRINK AT LEAST ONE DRINK FROM THE SHAKE. (TAKE A PICTURE OF THE EMPTY CUP.)

8. GO TO THE PARK AT ____________________. YOU WILL FIND SOMETHING TO DO WITH ST. PATRICK’S DAY HANGING SOMEWHERE ON THE FENCE. GRAB 1 AND GO.

NOTE - I had bought Shamrock necklaces from The Dollar Tree and hung them on different areas of the fence.

9. PULL THE CAR OVER. SOMEWHERE IN THE CAR IS A PINK PEEP IN A ZIPLOC BAG. FIND IT AND TAKE A PICTURE OF 1 TEAM MEMBER EATING IT!

10. HEAD BACK TO THE HOUSE!

At the end of the race, you sit down with one member of each team and the phone camera giving them the applicable points.

The winning team can be given candy or Shamrock hats or Bunny ears. (It doesn't have to be elaborate.)

I hope you had a wonderful Wednesday. I'll be back soon with some SPRING stuff! I'm a Fall/Winter girl at heart, but I have to admit, even I am enjoying the warm weather.

Sincerely,

The Enchanting Belinda

Weekend Happenings, Quotable Quotes, Blog Linkage, Pinterest Stuff (Acts of Random Kindness for Kids)

Good Thursday evening!

NUGGETS AND TIDBITS - I was getting a little nervous.

The Faulkner Family Handbook specifically states, "Mike and Roxie will go on their annual Father/Daughter Steak Date Night within the month of February. Always. February."

But Mike and Roxie talked about it, and since things were more than a little busy the month of February, they bumped the date to March...

Which bothered me greatly.

But it all worked out just fine.

RANDOMNESS #1 - You know how I said last weekend was going to be all about moving Josh?

Well, this weekend is going to be all about Roxie's Senior Prom.

The prep work begin tomorrow morning at 11:00 and "The Senior Prom Experience" will end in the wee hours of Saturday morning. It is going to be quite a day!

But, as promised, here is all the Moving "stuff."

Austin, Roxie, Mike and I helped move Josh to his new apartment in Hartselle Saturday morning.

When we arrived, we immediately ordered pizza and had a picnic on top of unopened boxes...

Because our priorities are very much in order.

Then Roxie was given the "clean the bathroom" duties.

After unpacking and cleaning, Roxie and Austin headed home, and Mikie and I went shopping with Josh to stock his pantry and fridge.

At the end of the day, this was my favorite room. It was totally empty except for a lone ironing board, and it still had vacuum tracks.

I LOVE this kind of room.

It speaks to me.

I couldn't find a front door mat that said, "This is where I live right now, but my 'Home Sweet Home' is really in Gardendale, Alabama."

RANDOMNESS #2 - I had wanted to throw Josh a going-away party, but everything happened so quickly, I ended up getting as many of the family together as possible (ten in all), and we ate at Mugshots.

Get it?

We ate at Mugshots...

And Josh is going to be working at the jail.

It was brilliant, I tell you.

Roxie's mugshot.

Josh.

Mike.

Beverly.

Zac.

Zac's mugshot is just a little too happy, if you ask me.

Tommy.

Austin.

And Melia.

I love her, but Melia's mugshot scares me just a little bit.

Just Josh!

Quotable Quotes

"Children are not a distraction from more important work. They are the most important work." C. S. Lewis

Well said, Mr. Lewis.

Well said.

Weekend Happenings AND Strawberry Brownies

Good Friday afternoon!

NUGGETS AND TIDBITS #1 - We had an ICE DAY yesterday!

Roxie, Josh and I were at home all day long, and I, for one, was quite content.

Josh and Roxie, for two, were not.

It may have been one of the last snow days for us to spend together EVER!

Because...

NUGGETS AND TIDBITS #2 - Josh is moving to Hartselle this weekend.

This seems to be happening so fast because IT IS.

IT IS happening very fast.

Josh got a job with the Morgan County Sheriff's Department working in the jail while he finishes up his last two classes in Criminal Justice at Wallace.

We found a townhouse apartment Monday of this week.

He moves Saturday of this week.

And starts work Saturday or Sunday night of this week.

See.

Fast.

Moving in pics next post!

NUGGETS AND TIDBITS #3 - The Chick has a new job working afternoons at our church's Day Care.

She has fallen in love with eight tiny two year-olds, and unless I miss my guess...

They all have Miss Roxie wrapped around their little fingers.

RANDOMNESS #1 - This past Friday, Saturday and Sunday, Roxie attended her very last Blast.

For those of you who may not be from around these parts, Blast is a special weekend for the 6th through 12th graders in our church.

All of the kids stay in Host Homes. Each grade/gender worships together, attends services together, has small group together and plays together.

They are also supposed to sleep somewhere in this time frame, but that rarely happens.

Roxie and the other 12th Grade Girls had a very good time!

These are some group pics taken before the Blast Dash...

Which is explained in more detail below.

Roxie and Hunter.

Hunter was a leader in the 6th Grade Boys' Host Home.

He probably got less sleep than the 12th Grade Girls.

Roxie and Hannah.

Roxie running the Blast Dash.

The Blast Dash is a huge obstacle course on a Ranch located in our town. There is a lot of running involved...

And mud.

Lots and lots of mud.

RANDOMNESS #2 - I shared this on Instagram a couple of nights ago.

I found a long, silky black tunic in the back of my closet.

I had no recollection of purchasing or otherwise obtaining said garment.

I put it on, and I liked it.

I liked it very much.

Then, I went on a few errands here and there in the Gardendale area.

I think I was in the middle of Target when it hit me. I was wearing my "new last summer" bathing suit cover-up...

In public...

In March...

The day before an ice storm.

I hate it when I do something like that, and I hate that I do something like that fairly often.

I am telling you now, because if you saw me out and about this week and said to yourself, "I have a bathing suit cover-up just like the shirt Belinda's wearing in public today," I want you to know I am aware.

I am painfully aware.

Strawberry Brownies

These were pretty delicious.

You will need the following:

Strawberry cake mix
2 eggs
1/3 cup oil

1. Mix and spread in prepared 9" x 13" pan. Dough will be thick.

2. Bake at 350 degrees for 14 minutes.

You will need the following for the glaze:

1 cup powdered sugar
1 1/2 tablespoons milk

1. Mix two ingredients until smooth.

2. Pour over warm brownies.

These would be a perfect dessert for Valentine's Day...

Or next Tuesday.

Weekend Happenings

As you can imagine, much of this weekend will revolve around moving Josh to Hartselle.

But...

1. Roxie and Mike are going on their annual Father/Daughter Dress-Up Steak Date tomorrow night.

I really don't have an official name for it. They go on dates throughout the year, but they like to dress up and have a special date sometime around February.

2. I am going to have a little going-away dinner for Josh, but the ice days and the different move-in days have made it impossible to plan at this moment.

Maybe Sunday lunch.

The theme is a surprise.

The get-together is not.

3. And tonight...

Well, tonight I am making taco soup and my guys are welcome to eat it whenever they show up at the door.

Have a wonderful weekend. I hope you're getting to spend time with people you love very, very much. I'll be talking to you soon.

Sincerely,

The Enchanting Belinda
