Weekend Happenings, Pinterest Stuff (New Year's Resolutions You Can Actually Accomplish!), Blog Linkage, Quotable Quotes, Christmas Ornament Gift, Bass Pro Shop Secret Santa Party

Good Friday morning!

RANDOMNESS #1 - It seems many, many people on Facebook and in Blog World are picking a word to define the coming year.

I love this!

I also thought I would use today's post to announce my "WORD" to the world...

But the more I pondered, more and more words kept popping into my head, and now I am confused.

Since I don't want my "word" for 2014 to be CONFUSED, I'm going to take a little time and carefully choose my word this weekend.

You'll be the first to know Monday morning.

RANDOMNESS #2 - I have two updates for you this cold January morn.

SPARKLE UPDATE - First, Sparkle is doing extremely well. Her tail is a-waggin', her appetite is great and much of her playfulness has returned.

We are doing exactly as the vet instructed.

She doesn't do stairs any longer.

She doesn't do cold weather any longer.

She gets her medicine the minute her tail stops a-waggin'. (He told us to give it to her on an "as-needed" basis.

I think she's doing great.

PAINT-BY-NUMBER UPDATE - We did not finish by the December 31 deadline, but I was oh-so-smart when I bought the paintings. They are both "winter" scenes and not "Christmas" scenes.

We're still working on them bit-by-bit, and we're enjoying it.

RANDOMNESS #3 - I didn't mention it before (or maybe I did), but we had a basketball tournament beginning the day after Christmas.

And I took pictures.

Of course.

We lost two and won one, but all in all it was very good practice for our game tonight.

That's right.

No school, but a basketball game tonight.

Since I like basketball AND I like the kids being out of school, this is a win-win for me.

Kam is poetry in motion.

Lovely Blue.

Roxie.

Roxie... again.

"I love you this much" Joy.

Kesley, Joy and Roxie.

It looks like Joy and Roxie knocked Kesley down.

Actually, they are chasing the ball AND the other people who knocked Kesley down.

I felt the need to clarify.

Quotable Quotes

"You can never learn that Christ is all you need, until Christ is all you have." Corrie Ten Boom

Blog Linkage - Go to www.kellehampton.com and read this week's post entitled, "35 and a New Year." Kelle picked some of her favorite pics from 2013 to mark the highlights of the year.

I'm thinking of doing the same on A Simple Life this coming Monday.

It's a fun way to look at a year, I think.

New Year's Resolutions You Can Actually Accomplish

1. Break a bad habit.
2. Learn a new skill.
3. Do a good deed.
4. Visit a new place.
5. Read a difficult book.
6. Write something important.
7. Try a new food.
8. Do something good for someone who cannot thank you.
9. Take an important risk.

I ask you, is this a great list or what?

The only one I even balked at was "Read a difficult book."

And the only reason I balked was because I just finished Leviticus.

Heavy, heavy sigh.

Christmas Ornament Gift I always give the kids an ornament each Christmas to signify something special about the past year.

For instance, I gave Austin a dated ornament of a guy on one knee handing a girl a diamond ring... because he and Melia got engaged... and that was a pretty significant event in 2013.

I gave Josh a copy of his apartment key with a ribbon so he could remember his first apartment.

Big, big stuff.

Roxie experienced a couple of big events in her life this year, too, but I had a problem finding a "Junior Representative Homecoming Court" ornament.

And then I saw this on Shutterfly.

You can put up to four pictures on this little 2" x 2" ornament. This shows the "title" and a picture of Roxie and her escort, Tristan.

Roxie and Hunter. Josh and Roxie.

And Mikie and Roxie on the bottom.

I think as the years go by, I'll be making these ornaments again and again. (Weddings, graduations, birthdays, trips, etc., etc.)

Bass Pro Shop Dirty Santa Party

My friend, Evelyn, told me about this idea.

Her boss took the office to Bass Pro Shop. They ate in the little restaurant in the store, and then everyone had to find a $10 Dirty Santa Gift to purchase and exchange within a certain time limit.

They then exchanged their Dirty Santa gifts in a seating area in the store.

I loved this idea for the following reasons:

1. The store is beyond huge. It would be easy for five or more people to scatter and purchase an interesting, useful or funny Dirty Santa gift without being seen.

2. Not being seen would be part of the fun.

3. And we're big Bass Pro Shop fans in our family, so I think everyone would enjoy doing something like this.

4. I can see it working as a Christmas party OR as a great teenage boy/girl party with a few friends.

5. I can even see it as being a fun Father's Day outing. Have lunch with Dad and then let him browse while the kids scatter and shop for the perfect Father's Day Gift for their guy!

Weekend Happenings

We have a big weekend planned. Yes, we do!

1. As I mentioned above, we have a basketball game tonight. Roxie, Mike (maybe Josh) and I will be in attendance.

2. Austin will be working Friday and Saturday at the Chick AND JSU.

3. Josh will be taking care of some Hanceville stuff today.

4. At least three of The Faulkner Five will be attending Matthew's 6th Birthday Celebration in Oxford tomorrow morning.

I cannot believe he's already six years-old.

5. Roxie and I will be meeting Melia at 4:00 to to some bridesmaid dress shopping and bridal gown looking. This is going to be such an exciting year.

6. Josh has a flag football game Sunday. It's going to be a little on the bitterly cold side, but he's looking forward to it.

7. Sunday night, I think most of us will be whining and belly-aching about having to get up early to go to school Monday morning.

And I have to admit. I am one of the worst whiners and belly-achers. (Or best. I guess it depends on how you look at it.)

Either way, I own it!

I'll be back Monday with pictures from a six year-old's birthday party, pictures from yet another exciting basketball game and... Well, who knows what else. Anything could happen during a weekend!

Take care and I'll talk to you next week.

Sincerely,

The Enchanting Belinda
