Mindless Monday, Quotable Quotes

Good Monday morning!

RANDOMNESS #1 - I took a picture of The Man/The Boy before he left for work Friday evening to do the play-by-play for Donoho High School Football for WVOK.

If you've known me five seconds, you know I don't like to complain. That being said, would it kill some of these teams to use their imaginations a little and pick a different school color other than MAROON.

After being a Gardendale Rocket for 12 years, I was hoping for a nice soft yellow...

Or green.

The Man/The Boy looks wonderful in green.

As it stands right now, I wash maroon Rocket shirts, maroon Chick-Fil-A shirts and NOW maroon Donoho/WVOK shirts.

Again... not complaining.

NOTE - In Faulkner Football news, Donoho, JSU, Gardendale Rockets and Auburn all won their football games this past weekend.

We are on FIRE!

RANDOMNESS #2 - The Season of Monica and Roxie has officially begun. We were visiting Grandmother's church yesterday (my home church, Southside Baptist in Trussville). It was Grandparents' Day and they always have a special service.

Anyway, Monica was visiting with her Grandmother and Roxie was visiting with her Grandmother (as they do every year), and after dinner-on-the-grounds, the planning began.

"What do you want to do for our 17th birthday celebration?"

"We're still going to the Wynfrey for Black Friday, right?"

"How much money are you taking?"

"I cannot wait until Christmas at the Palisades."

"Can we get tattoos this year?" (They ask me this question just to upset me mightily from time to time. They love to see me sweat. Yesterday was no exception.)

"I love your hair!"

"I love your dress!"

"I'll see you in a few days."

"Text me."

And so it begins.

And except for the unsettling tattoo remarks, it is very sweet.

Maybe Amy and I should get a tattoo this weekend and just embarrass them "straight."

But I've heard it's quite painful...

So I think I'll let Amy go first...

And then I'll probably change my mind and just let Amy do it all by herself.

Oh, yeah. That sounds like a good plan to me!

RANDOMNESS #3 - Grandparents' Day was a success. The guest speaker preached a sermon and at the end he drew a beautiful picture to go along with his message while three of four songs played in the background.

He is uber-talented, and while we have seen him three times, I could watch him over and over and over again.

Pretty impressive, huh?

Katie and Roxie.

Roxie and Josh.

Grandmother and Zac.

Roxie, Grandmother and Katie.

Roxie, Grandmother and Katie.

Austin, Melia, Bradley and Stephanie were at the service, too, but they had to leave as soon as church was over because of prior obligations.

All that means... I didn't get pictures of them.

Me and MamMa.

MamMa wasn't able to come to the church service, but we delivered her flowers and a boxed lunch on the way home. Needless to say, she was thrilled to see us.

Not only were we a small representation of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren... but we came bearing gifts.

Food and flowers delivered to your door on a Sunday afternoon. Chicks from two to 92 would love this!

RANDOMNESS #4 - Just in case you haven't heard, September is Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month.

To do her part, my Mom had her toes painted teal. Teal toes.

You probably don't realize how monumental her teal toes have become.

My Mom was brought up in a generation which believes a soft pink is a perfectly good toenail color. Before going to the beach, she might go with a brighter pink or even a cheerful red.

But green toes, blue toes, neon yellow toes... not so much.

So when my Mom called me and asked me to tell Roxie she had her toes painted TEAL for Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month, Roxie wanted to see it before she believed it.

And here they are.

The woman does not lie.

And Roxie is more than just a little impressed with her Grandmother.

RANDOMNESS #5 - You do know there were plenty of photobombing opportunities during yesterday's festivities, don't you?

Here are just a couple.

RANDOMNESS #6 - My Dad had a special gift. He had lifelong friends. And when I say lifelong, I'm not talking teenage friends or military friends or friends he made during his first job.

I'm talking about friends he had from the time he was in elementary school.

I think that is such an admirable quality. I really, really do.

I'm not exactly sure when Mr. Nabers and Daddy became friends, but when they did, it was for life.

It just so happens Mr. Nabers is Monica's grandfather.

It also just so happens Monica has been voted "Most Photogenic" in beauty pageants before.

I think we may know where the "photogenic gene" comes from!

Quotable Quotes - I am in total agreement with the following quote. TOTAL.

"The fact that I am a woman does not make me a different kind of Christian. But the fact that I am a Christian does make me a different kind of woman." Elisabeth Elliot

Definitely words to live by today and every day.

Have a magnificent Monday. I'll be back Friday morning with Weekend Happenings, Randomness and some pumpkin goodness. It's the MOST wonderful time of the year! (At least, that's what I believe.)

Be kind to people you may meet today. You never know what someone may be going through, and your smile or words of encouragement may be greatly needed.

Take care, and I'll talk to you the end of the week.

Sincerely,

The Enchanting Belinda

    1. Sometimes I think my brain just shuts off... like a protective mechanism... and I don't hear everything Monica and Roxie say to torment me.

But thanks for catching me up!

  2. Okay where is Christmas at the Palisades? Hmm? And y'all play boardgames and super soakers?
Glad to be back reading about you and your family.

    1. Hey, Andrea. Palisades Park is in Oneonta, Alabama. My extended family rents a huge "log cabin" type room with a kitchen, rocking chairs and fireplace, etc. every year for a big Christmas party.

We play Minute-To-Win-It games (or we have the last couple of years). Before that, we had gingerbread house contests, etc. Right now, all ages like the Minute-To-Win-It stuff. I've already got the list of new games for this coming year.

And I'm glad you're back, too.
