Weekend Happenings

Good Friday morning!

Have you had a good week?

Are you getting ready to go back to school?

Have you sent any kids off to college lately?

Are you in the depths of despair because of the third question?

That's okay. Stick with me. I've got you covered today!

The first thing you'll need to do is enter the 1,000th Post Contest. Go ahead. Get that part over with, and keep reading!

CONTEST! CONTEST! CONTEST! - This is my 985th post for A Simple Life. The countdown continues!

The Contest will be simple. The rules are as follows:

Beginning today, leave your NAME followed by the word "CONTEST" in the Comment Section of A Simple Life, e-mail me ( or go to my Facebook page.

You can enter the Contest ONCE A DAY (each and every day including Saturdays AND Sundays) until Thursday, August 30 at midnight. (Your name could be put into the drawing bowl a total of 21 times between now and Thursday, August 30!)

I will write my 1,000th post Friday morning, August 31.

I will draw from a HUGE BOWL of names, and a winner will be announced the morning of Friday, August 31.

The winner will receive a $15 Gift Certificate to one of the following restaurants:

1. Another Broken Egg
2. Original Pancake House
3. Olexa's
4. Lucia's Italian Restaurant in Helena

It will be Winner's Choice!

If you win and you live somewhere other than Alabama, you will win a $15 VISA Gift Card!

"May the odds be ever in your favor!"

(I'm going to be saying that for the next 14 POSTS!)

Okay. Next, you'll need to read the entertaining/meaningful/funny/poignant posts on these blogs.

Blog Linkage (Friday Edition)

1. Go to Six Sisters' Stuff under My Blog List and read today's post entitled "25 Fun Lunch Box Ideas." (I may make one of these for The Enchanting Belinda today!)

2. Go to Coal Creek Farms under My Blog List. Read (and watch) the post entitled "The Dexter Cows." (Be thankful you do not own cows.)

3. Go to Confessions of a Pioneer Woman under My Blog List and read "Eveningtime Workouts." (Be thankful you're not married to a cowboy... who makes you work out!)

All righty. Feeling better? No? Keep going!

RANDOMNESS #1 - The following are my favorite Pinterest pins for the week!

1. I found this tip for easily peeling hard boiled eggs. Add 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda to the water and it will make the egg shell easier to peel.

2. Cover a pumpkin with glue and epsom salt for a sparkle that's more classic-looking than glitter.

3. I'm going to make Peppermint Punch during the holidays. Add peppermint ice cream to ginger ale. Stir with a peppermint stick.

Surely you're feeling better by now! If not, read on!

RANDOMNESS #2 - My sister, Bev, had unexpected knee surgery Wednesday. She knew her knee was messed up. She knew she had a doctor's appointment Monday. She knew surgery was in her future.

I just don't think THIS WEDNESDAY was in her mind-set.

But she had her knee surgery (it was "scoped"), and is now resting at home.

I crawled into her new post-tornado bed yesterday afternoon for a little visit, and she is doing well.

She said I could take a picture of her knee post-surgery, but it looked pretty gross, so I asked her if I could take new house (post-tornado) pictures instead. She agreed, and I didn't have to control my gag reflex while photographing.

Aren't her light fixtures over her sink too cute? I love them.

Her dining room table is TALL, which is great because we are a TALL people.

Everything is so nice and shiny and new... except Bev's knee.

All of Bev's new colors are in the Tuscan family. I love her bathroom "furniture."

Pretty, rich Tuscan colors. Makes me want to go to Italy!

I had to throw some "people" pics in here. Brad and Josh wouldn't turn around, but you can see some really good "cousin bonding" going on here.

And finally for your viewing pleasure... knock-out roses. Bev has hundreds (nay, thousands) of knock-out roses all over her front yard. Beautiful!

Okay. This is all I know to do. If looking at my non-existent weekend plans doesn't make you feel better, I don't know what will!

Weekend Happenings

Mikie and The Brothers are going to the new Bourne movie tonight. I've seen the other Bourne movies, and while they are good, they require more "thinking" than I am willing to do this late in the Summer.

They are going to have a good "Guys Night Out."

Roxie is with a friend this weekend, so I think I'll be scrapping tonight. (I can get into that!)

Saturday Austin will be working at The Chick, and Josh has a few things planned. We might do a tubing thing or a fishing thing late Saturday evening... or maybe Mikie will grill. That sounds good, too.

Sunday we'll be a-goin' to church, and we'll all be together as the Faulkner Five Sunday evening.

I cannot wait!

I hope you have a fantastic weekend. I'll be back Monday with pictures, Randomness, more chances to enter the Contest... you get the idea. More of the same!

Take care, and I'll talk to you next week.
