Mindless Monday, Blog Linkage, Exit Date

Good Monday morning!

I have a cat picture at the top of the page.

I'm not a cat person. I never have been. I never will be.

They are very intimidating, and I always feel as though they are judging me.

Do not get me wrong.

I do not kick cats OR glare at cats OR talk badly about cats.

However, if I have to choose between petting a cat or a dog, the dog will win every time.

That being said, my niece, Katie, loves cats. This is Saia. (I don't know if that is spelled correctly... and I don't care.) Saia is a very snooty cat, but she let me take a picture of her yesterday, and I liked it. Lo and behold, Saia is my page topper for a few days...

Until I take a really good dog picture.

RANDOMNESS #1 - Basketball is our all-consuming passion at the moment. Well, it's Roxie's all-consuming passion.

The rest of us are along for the ride.

We had two games last week (we won both), and we have three games this week (and we hope to win all three).

Yes. It appears she broke out in dance during the game.

And right after the dance, she decided to play a little basketball.

In the "old days," Roxie's LONG ponytail would have blinded her opponent. Now she has to rely solely on her wits and skill.

RANDOMNESS #2 - My niece, Katie, celebrated her 19th birthday yesterday. Right now, the count stands as follows:

Austin 21
Bradley 20
Josh 19
Katie 19
Roxie 16
Zac 14

Between now and March, Austin, Brad and Zac will have birthdays, too, and then we'll take a little birthday break until Roxie starts it all up again in September.

Speaking for me and Bev, by that time, we will need the break.

This is one of the most dangerous-looking clocks I've ever seen. As you can see, Katie was thrilled.

I love candid shots of Josh. He smiles much better when he isn't posing.

Roxie and Katie right before the candle blowin'.

Katie and her friend, Tim.

The cousins. Do not ask me why Austin looks a foot shorter than everyone else. Beverly's house is less than a year old, so I know the floors are level (more or less).

I think I'm going to have to measure everyone next time we get together.

It can be one of our party games.

Blog Linkage

1. Do you need a new perspective on doing laundry? Do you? Go to Nitty.Gritty. under My Blog List and read Jodi's post entitled "I can't help but love it. Sometimes."

2. If you are getting a new baby in the near future, you might want to visit eighteen25 under My Blog List each and every day this week.

"So this next week, at eighteen25, it's going to be all about those sweet bundles of joy! We'll have some free downloads, a fun project or two and giveaways that you won't want to miss!"

I'm not getting a baby any time in the near future, but I'll be visiting daily to see the good stuff on this blog.

Exit Date

I had an idea a few days ago, and the more I thought about it, the more I liked it.

Do a little research, grab one of your kiddos and head to the nearest Interstate.

For this example, I decided to head North on I-65.

First, Google "I-65 Exits." A website will miraculously appear with every exit on I-65 listed. There is a list of things you can click on under each exit, but I chose to simply click on "Restaurants" and "Points of Interest."

Secondly, depending on the age of the child, I would probably keep the Points of Interest stops around 3 or 4 and the Restaurant stops at 1 or 2.

Here is a sample of what I think would be an interesting Exit Date.

Begin at I-65 Exit 271 (Fieldstown Road) and head NORTH!

1. Take Exit 287 and follow the signs to Rickwood Caverns State Park (1.32 miles off the Exit). Take 30 or 45 minutes to walk around and enjoy the sights of this little State Park before heading back to the Interstate.

2. Take Exit 308 and head to Funzone, 1635 Main Ave S.W., Cullman (only 1.68 miles off the Exit.) Spend a little time and money with your special guy or gal. (Funzone has inflatables, a miniature golf course and go-carts.) Be sure to call ahead for opening times and rates. (256-735-0704).

3. Take Exit 322 and check out a little restaurant called Full House Restaurant & Barbecue, 59 Douglas Road in Falkville, Alabama (256-784-9001). It is only .21 miles off the Exit.

NOTE - I haven't eaten at this restaurant, but I love trying local places. (If for any reason you don't feel comfortable once you actually see the restaurant, have one or two fast food choices ready for Plan B.)

Hop back on the Interstate and head home, but plan on stopping at 1 more tourist attraction (at a different Exit) and maybe get an ice cream or other kind of snack before pulling into your Home Base Exit.

Try to do as many different things as you possible can... And when you feel like trying an Exit Date again, head SOUTH!

Have a dry Monday morning (if possible). I'll be back Friday with Weekend Happenings, pics, dates and more.

Take care, and I'll talk to you the end of the week.

Sincerely,

The Enchanting Belinda
