Good Monday morning!
DON'T FORGET! DON'T FORGET! DON'T FORGET! - A Simple Life is a Monday and Friday ONLY blog now. I'll have a new post this Friday, September 14!
This weekend was good, but in no way, shape or form was it an adventure. And that's okay. Adventures should be special. You cannot expect every weekend to contain an adventure. It would become ordinary and boring, and if there is one thing I do not care for, it is an ordinary and boring adventure.
RANDOMNESS #1 - The Chick went out to eat with some chick friends this past weekend. Mike and I waited on the front porch until she was picked up, and we walked out to the car to talk (and take pictures).
As she got into the car and I took the final photo, I told one of her friends, "I've been taking pictures of Roxie and her Dad on the front porch while we waited for you."
"I know. She has been texting us about it."
Wow. Roxie's good. I had not even seen her pull her phone out of her pocket while we were having our impromptu photo shoot.
Because we had such a good rapport with Roxie and friends prior to them driving off, I decided to play with her by tweeting on my text... which is the only way I know to tweet.
ME - I cannot believe you were texting about me. HASHTAG #Iamsoooembarrassed #Ihaveprettytoes
ROXIE - No response.
ME - (Becoming a little paranoid approximately nine minutes later) - Are you mad?
ROXIE - No response.
ME - (Totally paranoid four minutes after my last text/tweet) - I am sorry. Won't happen again. Have fun.
ROXIE - Still no response.
ME - (A 50-something woman who is as insecure as any 15 year-old girl... 42 seconds after the last text/tweet) - I am going to put $40 under your pillow. Don't tell Daddy.
ROXIE - Nothing. Nada. Total and complete silence.
For anyone who ever comes to this website looking for insightful and wise ways of dealing with an almost 16 year-old daughter, I will say I absolutely did NOT put $40 under Roxie's pillow to make up for my huge blunder (talking to my daughter's friends in a familiar and joking manner while taking pictures of them as they pulled away from the house)...
Because that would be bad parenting...
Because you shouldn't have to apologize three times AND pay your child to love you for such a little mistake (huge blunder)...
Because I didn't have $40 cash at the time to stuff under her pillow!
And then, when I was about to up the $40 cash bribe to $50, I received the following LATE texts from The Chick...
LATE TEXT #1 - No, Mom... You're so funny.
LATE TEXT #2 - Don't be sorry... They love y'all.
LATE TEXT #3 - You're the best :)
And then I felt better, because my self-worth all stems from what a carload of teenage chicks thinks about me.
I have the addresses of several GOOD parenting websites if you are looking for something helpful and useful regarding the raising of your own teenage chick.
Feel free to ask.
Roxie, Kaitlyn, Taylor and Caroline.
RANDOMNESS #2 - As mentioned above, Saturday's adventure did not materialize. Nope. It did not.
And the weather was gorgeous! Absolutely gorgeous! It would have been a great day for a City Adventure/Day Trip.
As it turned out, it was a great day to watch an Auburn football game, get a pedicure (I could sit in that massage chair ALL... DAY... LONG), grill hamburgers and eat on the deck.
It was the perfect day for those things.
These are my "autumn" toes. They are different than my "beach" toes and my "tubing" toes because this is a deeper, darker shade of red. If this falls in the category of Too Much Information, forgive me. Slow weekend.
This is my autumnal dog... Copper. I took a few pics of Sparkle while we were cooking out, but for some reason the old girl wasn't very photogenic Saturday (which is unusual for her).
I made Pioneer Woman hamburger patties after I watched her show Saturday morning. I did NOT make the twice-fried homemade French fries. I think that's why someone invented chips... and since the hamburgers were so huge with matching huge buns, I didn't feel the need of putting more starch on the table.
However, I did break out the Auburn "china." Win or lose, we will support our team.
RANDOMNESS #3 - Senior Day was a big hit.
Beverly sang beautifully.
Tommy brought an excellent sermon.
Every grandchild was in attendance for Grandmother's big day.
And all NINE of MamMa's great-grandchildren were in attendance, too.
We didn't all sit together, but if we had, I think we would have packed FOUR pews. And that's with Tommy and Bev sitting on the front row... because they were special and all. I'm pretty sure that's a record somewhere.
Katie wasn't feeling well, so she sat through the service and lunch, but then she had to go home. I snapped a pic before she left. Roxie and Katie.
Melia came with our family (and Austin) to celebrate Senior Day, too. Her necklace "accidentally" matched Roxie's dress, and the two of them looked so pretty together. I love it when "accidental matching" takes place.
Roxie and Monica are not first cousins. They are first cousins once removed. However, they are both great-grandchildren of MamMa... and best friends... so I took a pic of those two.
Beautiful Abbie and MamMa.
Roxie and MamMa.
MamMa and her great-grandsons (minus Tyler, the youngest). Tyler is the only "great" I didn't get a picture of before he left, but let me tell you, he was handsome AND he was dressed in blue... just like all the other great-grandsons. (And that wasn't planned!)
Zac, Austin, Brad, Josh and MamMa.
Quotable Quotes - I find most of the quotes I am drawn to can easily be embroidered on a pillow. (I think I have my next hobby picked out.)
"Stop the glorification of busy."
Pretty good, huh?
How to Make a Cake Mix Taste Like a Bakery Cake
This came directly from Pinterest, and as soon as I finish typing, I'm going to pop one of these in the oven. I'll take pics and show you the outcome Friday.
Step 1 - Look at the directions on the cake mix box.
Step 2 - Add one more egg than called for in the directions (or add 2 if you want it to be very rich).
Step 3 - Use melted butter instead of oil and double the amount.
Step 4 - Instead of water, use milk.
Step 5 - Mix well and bake for the time recommended on the box.
I may use The Enchanting Belinda's Bakery for my new company's name. What do you think? It's prettier than Edgar's and Klingler's. (The name... not the cakes.)

Go to The Dating Divas under My Blog List and read today's post entitled "Date Long Distance Style." This sounds fun and doable. In fact, Mikie is going out of town in October, and I may try something like this... if one of the kids can set me up on Skype. (That may or may not be the proper terminology. I have pretty much given up trying to be proper at this stage of life.)
Have a wonderful, wonderful Monday. I'll be back FRIDAY with more of anything and everything. (I don't know about you, but I'm very excited!)
Take care, and I'll talk to you at the end of the week.
Sincerely,
The Enchanting Belinda
